Exciting Career Choices Offered By The Games Workshop

Tabletop wargames are a fairly popular hobby for many people. Their beginning comes all the way back from the 1800’s where comparable setups were used to recreate battles for tactical purposes. The game of Kriegspiel was made in 1811 and has a few similarities to today’s adaptations of wargames. Today we see successful brands like Warhammer, which is a game using miniature soldiers that are put together and painted in an assortment of ways. The players then battle their squads against each other using dice and tactics. One popular chain of stores that sell these miniatures is the Games Workshop and we are going to be reviewing what it is like taking on one of the Career Choices offered in the stores.

There are many Careers available within the Games Workshop, it’s not all based in the stores. For example there are New Careers to be found in miniatures design or working on the website team. These Careers present some amazing opportunities to get involved in the game on a whole other level. There are of course some reasonably high level qualifications required for things like this though, so the key thing we are going to be discussing is trying New Careers inside the retail stores. Yes these positions are probably the lowest starting point in what Games Workshop has to give, but they may also be some of the most fun you’ll ever find in a job.

The key responsibilities of these positions are no doubt to take care of the shop and sell the products to customers, just similar any other retailer. The big difference here though, is that you are employed in a shop surrounded by one of your hobbies, and it doesn’t finish there. In store there are often gaming sessions happening all day, events for newcomers and much more. As an employee of the store you get to jump in on this action, participating and managing everything to keep it organised. If you ever drop by a Games Workshop store you’ll see precisely what I mean, the moment you go through the door you’ll be welcomed and introduced. You’ll be asked if you’re familiar with the game and if not, the employees have no problem in using 15 minutes to show you the basics of the game. To be honest, it wouldn’t be surprising if the employees spent more time playing games and managing events than they do behind the counter.

Obtaining these Careers isn’t exceptionally difficult as you can probably imagine, after all it is a retail store and reasonable grades in GCSE English and Maths will be sufficient. The biggest thing the employer will search for is no doubt a genuine love for the game and a friendly and confident character, so if you’re looking for New Careers and have a genuine appeal in the Warhammer games then you can’t really go wrong with this. Yes there may not be many chances for promotion in the store, you’d only really be looking at progressing into a manager’s position, but it’s not the progression that you’d go there for. You’d be taking on these Career Choices because you’d be in a friendly, positive environment, working with a product that you like and can enjoy every day.
