After you buy a bed in a retail store or on-line, the company does not ship a fully assembled crib to your front door. The crib will be sent in a box, “knocked down” – that is packed in parts. It’s cheaper and you save more money.

The Important Three Things for Assembling Your Baby’s Bed
To recap, you will assemble your baby’s new crib right in the baby’s bedroom, not in the living room.. For a quick and easy assembly – the very first time, be sure to have these three resources at your fingertips.
Instructions
- The manufacturer’s Instructions with pictures
- Any videos provided by the manufacturer or dealer
- A picture of what the assembled bed looks like
Space
- A relatively empty bedroom so that you have enough space to maneuver the bed when it is fully assembled
- Place to lay out all of the parts including the sides, foot, and head of the bed, the mattress frame
- Make sure that you have all of the parts. Check your list of parts against the instructions and hardware part list.
- Tip: Make each part of the bed with a Post It note so that you can identify it with the instructions.
Tools
- Any tools listed in the instructions. Most beds require screwdrivers, pliers, an allen wrench,to tighten the nuts and bolts
- A small rubber hammer or mallet to tap the assembled parts in place. Don’t use a steel hammer on wooden beds, you’ll dent the wood and wreck the finish.
Putting it All Together
Read each step of the instruction guide before you begin. Then, practice fitting the pieces together before you fasten any screws or bolts. Do each step in order. Most instructions number all of the steps, so do Step One before Step Two.
Most convertible cribs have different mattress positions, like low, middle and high. Set the mattress position to fit the age and size of your child. The instructions will tell you which mattress height is best for the height of your child. Most brands recommend that the mattress be positioned higher for younger children.
Tighten all screws, nuts and bolts so that the convertible bed is solid and stable..
Once the bed is assembled, make sure it is sturdy. Do any of the parts feel loose? Are the sides, headboard and footboard sturdy? Does anything wobble? Is the bed safe to put your baby in? Remove any gaps between the sides, mattress, and rails that could trap your baby’s head or body.
